NEW SEASON, NEW STYLES: FASHION SALE YOU CAN'T MISS

Packing your hospital bag is one of the most exciting milestones of your pregnancy. It means the big day is almost here! However, figuring out what you actually need versus what will just take up space in a tiny hospital room can feel overwhelming.

To help you feel calm, organized, and prepared, we’ve put together the ultimate hospital bag checklist for mom, baby, and your birth partner.

When should you pack? Aim to have your hospital bag packed by weeks 32 to 35 of your pregnancy, just in case your little one decides to make an early appearance.

Hospital Bag Essentials for Mom

Your comfort is priority number one. While the hospital provides basic medical supplies, having your own cozy items makes a world of difference during labor and recovery.

  • Documents & Essentials: ID, insurance card, hospital paperwork, and your birth plan (if you have one).
  • Comfortable Robe & Sleepwear: Choose dark colors and front-opening options for easy skin-to-skin contact and nursing access.
  • Nursing Bras & Tank Tops: Bring 2–3 comfortable, wire-free nursing bras or seamless bralettes.
  • Going-Home Outfit: Think loose, soft, and stretchy. High-waisted jogger pants, a nursing tank, and a cardigan are perfect options.
  • Non-Skid Socks or Slippers: Hospital floors get chilly—bring warm socks with grips or slide-on slippers.
  • Personal Toiletries: Travel-sized shampoo, conditioner, body wash, toothbrush, toothpaste, dry shampoo, lip balm, and hair ties.
  • Long Phone Charger Cable: Hospital outlets are often far from the bed, so a 6-foot or 10-foot charging cord is a lifesaver.

Hospital Bag Essentials for Baby

Keep baby clothes simple and soft. Newborn skin is sensitive, so stick to gentle, breathable fabrics like organic cotton.

  • Going-Home Outfit: Pack two different sizes (Newborn and 0-3 Months) since you won’t know baby’s exact weight until birth.
  • Knotted Gowns or Footies: Zippers and tie-bottom gowns make midnight diaper changes in the hospital exponentially easier.
  • Soft Swaddle Blankets: Great for swaddling, photo ops, and keeping baby warm on the ride home.
  • Newborn Hat & Mittens: Keeps baby cozy and prevents them from scratching their delicate face.
  • Infant Car Seat (Installed): You cannot leave the hospital without an approved infant car seat properly installed in your vehicle!

Essentials for Your Birth Partner

Your partner or support person will be spending long hours in the room with you, so they’ll need a few items of their own:

  • 1–2 Changes of Clothes: Stick to comfortable, layerable pieces.
  • Snacks & Reusable Water Bottle: Hospital cafeterias aren’t always open late, so load up on granola bars, nuts, and electrolyte drinks.
  • Pillow & Blanket: Hospital pull-out couches aren’t known for luxury; bring a familiar pillow and throw blanket from home.
  • Entertainment: An iPad, book, or headphones for downtime during labor.

What You Can Leave at Home

  • Too Many Clothes: You’ll spend most of your stay in a hospital gown, robe, or comfortable pajamas.
  • Valuables & Jewelry: Leave expensive jewelry and unnecessary electronics at home to avoid losing them.
  • A Ton of Diapers: Most hospitals provide plenty of diapers, wipes, and mesh post-partum underwear for your stay. You only need a few backup items in your bag.
